Sugar mill’s protesting retired worker dies

Ahmadnagar: A retired worker who had participated in the agitation against the Rahuri based Dr. Baburao Bapuji Tanpure Sahakari Sakhar Karkhana over pending salary died on Wednesday. Deceased Sopan Jagdhane was sent to the home after he complained of feeling dizziness. He died on his way to home.

The mill workers have claimed that he died due to fasting and are unhappy with the administration not paying attention to it.

The workers are on an indefinite hunger strike outside the mill premises since Tuesday asking to release their pending salaries and to fulfill other demands. The mill belongs to MP Dr. Sujay Vikhe Patil. The mill is not participating in crushing season this year due to sugarcane scarcity.

According to the police official, “Jagdhane was retired in the year 2010. The mill does not have to pay any outstanding salary to him; instead, Jagadhane owes 20 to 30 thousand to sugar mills.”
