Sugar mills start closing operations in Maharashtra

Sugar mills in Maharashtra have started closing their cane crushing operations as the season nearing to an end.

According to the data released by the sugar commissionerate, two sugar mills in Maharashtra have closed their operations till March 4, 2022, both are from the Kolhapur division.

According to the sugar commissionerate, as many as 197 sugar mills participated in the cane crushing operations till 4 March 2022. The mills have produced 1003.89 lakh quintal sugar by crushing 975.47 lakh tonne sugarcane with a recovery rate of 10.29 per cent.

Kolhapur division is leading in the state in terms of sugar production. The mills from this division have produced 264.75 lakh quintal sugar by crushing 226.40 lakh tonne sugarcane with a recovery rate of 11.69 per cent. Kolhapur always remains at the top in terms of sugar recovery rate.

Solapur division is ahead in terms of the maximum number of mills participating in cane crushing operations. 46 mills have participated in the region and mills have produced 213.10 lakh quintal sugar by crushing 229.36 lakh tonne sugarcane till March 4, 2022.
