Sugar output in Argentina likely to fall to 1.55 million tonnes

Sugar output in Argentina is likely to fall to 1.55 million metric tonnes for the season 2021/22 from 1.83 million tonnes in the 2020/21 season, informed the USDA agricultural attaché in Buenos Aires.

The drought in the areas where sugarcane is cultivated has resulted in a drop in the sugarcane output. For the 2021/22 season, Argentina is expecting to export 220,000 tonnes of sugar as against 240,000 tonnes in the previous season.

The sugar mills will be crushing 20 million tonnes of sugarcane, which is 6.1% down compared with last season. The domestic sugar consumption is likely to be 1.5 million tonnes for the 2021/22 season.
