Sugar output in Europe in 2021/22 season expected to reach 14.7 million tonnes: ISO

Sugar output in the European Union for the 2021/22 season is likely to increase by 800,000 tonnes to 14.7 million tonnes, said Peter De Klerk, senior economist at the International Sugar Organization.

The sugar output will increase despite the marginal decrease in beet plantation in few parts of the EU, he said.

Speaking at the Santander ISO Datagro New York Sugar and Ethanol Conference, he said that the sugar imports by the EU will decline to 1.45 million tonnes. The exports are expected to fall to 700,000 tonnes in 2021/22, he said.
