Sugar output in Germany to increase

Hamburg: As per the forecast, sugar output in Germany is likely to increase to 4.48 million tonnes. Sugar output in the country during last season was about 4.10 million tonnes.

According to the sugar industry association WVZ, the earlier forecast made in September was around 4.38 million tonnes. The area under sugar beet plantation in the country has been increased from 350,000 hectares in last season to 354,000 hectares this season, said the association. The rainfall received during the summer season will boost the sugar beet production in the country.

It is expected that the sugar mills in the country would receive 28.97 million tonnes of beets for processing this year as against 25.72 million tonnes last season. Also, the average beet crop yields are estimated to increase to 81.8 tonnes per hectare from 73.3 tonnes last season.
