Sugar mills in Maharashtra are operating smoothly in the ongoing cane crushing season.
According to the sugar commissionerate, a total of 197 sugar mills are operating in the state. The mills, till February 3, produced 755.16 lakh quintal sugar by crushing 748.85 lakh tonne sugarcane with a recovery rate of 10.08 per cent.
Solapur division is leading in the state with maximum sugar mills (45) operating during the ongoing crushing season. The mills have produced 161.51 lakh quintal sugar by crushing 177.76 lakh tonne sugarcane up to February 3.
Kolhapur division is leading in the state in terms of maximum sugar production. The mills in the Kolhapur division have produced 204.28 lakh quintal sugar by crushing 177.72 lakh tonnes of sugarcane with a recovery rate of 11.49 per cent.
