Sugar output in Maharashtra reaches 1054.30 lakh quintals

Pune: For the ongoing cane crushing season, the sugar mills in Maharashtra have produced 1054.30 lakh quintals sugar by crushing 1005.47 lakh tonne sugarcane, which is the highest ever in the history of Maharashtra State, surpassing the about 954 lakh tonnes cane crushed in the complete 2017-18 season.

As many as 95 private and 95 cooperative sugar mills participated in the crushing operations this year. 28 sugar mills still continue cane crushing operations.

Of the total sugar produced, Kolhapur and Pune region have crushed 46% sugarcane to produce 50% of the total sugar produced in the state.

Total 53 sugar mills had started operating in the drought-prone region of state including Aurangabad, Nanded, Amravati and Nagpur. These mills have produced 197 lakh quintal sugar which is 19% of the total production.
