Sugar production drops in Fiji

The Fiji Sugar Corporation has predicted a drop in the sugarcane crushing by 3 to 4 per cent this year due to the unseasonal rain and the Tropical Cyclone Harold. FSC has crushed 1,688,548 tonnes of cane till November as compared with 1,806,379 tonnes crushed during last year.

The FSC has stated that the efforts are being taken to ensure that the available cane is harvested and delivered to the mills for crushing.

The sugar output has been lowered to 148,660 tonnes as compared with 153,250 tonnes in 2019.

The Lautoka mill will stop cane crushing on November 27, Rarawai mill will stop on November 29 and the Labosa mill would stop crushing on December 2.
