Sugar production expected to increase in Gujarat

Ahmadabad: Sugarcane crushing season in Gujarat has picked up and as per the Indian Sugar Mills Association (ISMA) the mills in the state have produced 1.66 lakh tonnes of sugar till November 30, 2021.

The mills in the state had produced 1.65 lakh tonnes of sugar in the same period during last year, stated the ISMA.

As per the news report published in The Times of India, an official associated with the Gujarat State Federation of Cooperative Sugar Factories (GSFCSF) said, “The increase in the sugarcane acreage in the state would help in increasing sugar production by 10 per cent.”

The GSFCSF estimates that the sugarcane production would increase to 11.29 lakh tonnes in 2021-22 season from 10 lakh tonnes in 2020-21.

As per ISMA, 416 sugar mills were in operation in the country as on 30th November, 2021 and have produced 47.21 lakh tonnes of sugar in the season 2021-22, as compared to 43.02 lakh tonnes produced by 409 sugar mills as on 30th November, 2020.
