Sugar production in Pakistan likely to increase by 2 million tonnes: Minister

Islamabad: Sugar production in Pakistan is likely to increase by two million tonnes from the 7.5 million tonnes recorded last year, said Federal Minister for Finance and Revenue Shaukat Tarin.

The increase in sugar output would take the country from a sugar deficit to a sugar surplus, he said in a tweet.

He said, “The prices of sugar at ex-mill have cooled off to Rs 81 per kg, lower than that of last year.”

Taking to Twitter, Tarin said, “The sugar production likely to increase by 2 million tones from last year to 7.5 million tones. As a result, Pakistan is back to sugar surplus country from deficit. Ex-mill sugar prices are now around Rs 81/kg substantially lower from last year.”
