Sugar production to decline in Telangana

Hyderabad: The state-level sugarcane farmers’ meeting is scheduled at Nelakondapalli of Khammam district on November 19. T Sagar, general secretary of Telangana Rythu Sangham has appealed the farmers to participate in the meet to discuss several issues faced by the cane producers.

“Telangana is facing sugarcane shortage as the cane cultivation area has reduced from 1.1 lakh to 53,000 acres in the state. The state government has deliberately discouraged the cane cultivation which has resulted in shutting down of 4 mills out of 11 in the state. Currently, the state produced only 22.76 lakh tonnes of sugar at present and which may go down if the government fails to address our issues,” he said.
