Sugarcane crops on 17 acres destroyed in fire in Maharashtra’s Niphad

Nashik: Sugarcane grown over 17 acres of land was destroyed after a fire broke out in the field in Shingve village of Niphad taluka, reports The Times of India.

According to farmers, the sparking in the overhead wires of the distribution company led to the fire that spread on the farms in a short period. The field belongs to a farmer named Bhaulal Korde.

“The fire spread from one farm to another farm as they are close to each other. We managed to bring control to the fire to avert more loss,” said a farmer from the village.

According to the officials of the Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Limited (MSEDCL), the panchnama of the crop damage has been done and it was found that the crops grown over 17 acres of land were damaged.

Vikas Adhe, the public relations officer of MSEDCL’s Nashik Zone said, “The exact cause of the fire is not known and based on the claims of farmers the information has been forwarded to the agricultural department to carry out a valuation of the crop damage.”
