Haryana: Sugarcane crushing begins at Karnal sugar mill

Karnal: Cooperation Minister Dr Banwari Lal inaugurated the 48th crushing season at the Karnal sugar mill today. In his address, he assured that the government is committed to procuring the entire sugarcane produce from farmers and ensuring timely payment to them, reported Tribune India.

However, amidst the inaugural ceremony, discontent among the mill employees surfaced as they raised slogans against the minister and the government, advocating for the acceptance of their demands. Subsequently, the employees submitted a memorandum outlining their grievances to the minister.

Expressing frustration, a protesting employee stated, “On several occasions, we have been assured that our demands will be fulfilled, but nothing has been done, forcing us to protest against the government.” The primary demands include the regularization of daily wage earners and the implementation of a new ex gratia policy for employees across various cooperative sugar mills.

In response to the dissent, the minister highlighted Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar’s comprehensive efforts, emphasizing the inclusive approach of “Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas” (Collective Effort, Inclusive Development) that has benefitted every section of society.
