Sugarcane crushing in Brazil lowers in first half of June

Sao Paulo: The center-south region of Brazil has witnessed lower sugarcane crushing in the first half of June despite a slight increase compared to the preceding year, as per the data available with industry group Unica.

In early June the crushing in the region was reported at 38.6 million tonnes which was up by 5.76% from last year but was lower than the expectations of the market. As per the S&P Global Commodity, the crushing was expected to reach 42.2 million tonnes.

Unica issued a statement stating that in the states of Mato Grosso do Sul and Parana, the adverse weather conditions resulted in lowering crushing by 12.71% yearly.

The ethanol production was up 6.31% to 1.82 billion liters in early June while the sugar output was 2.14 million tonnes, a drop of 3.8%. The productions of both commodities were below forecasts as the analysts were expecting ethanol production at 2.07 billion liters while the sugar production was predicted at 2.4 million tonnes.
