Pune: Sugarcane crushing season for 2022-23 will start from October 1 and the state government is preparing for the same, said Maharashtra cooperative minister Balasaheb Patil. He was speaking with reporters after taking a review of the recently concluded 2021-22 crushing season in Pune.
This season the cane crushing was delayed due to some unavoidable reasons and Patil asked the authorities to promote the use of sugarcane harvesters to speed up the crushing activities and help sugar mills to manage operations.
Sugarcane crushing season ended in Maharashtra with the state producing the highest sugar so far in history breaking all the previous records.
Since the inception of the sugar industry in the state, this season saw the highest sugar production of 137.27 lakh tonnes. The average crushing period was 173 days, whereas average sugar recovery stands at 10.40 per cent.
