Sugarcane farmers demand hike in SAP

Bijnor, Uttar Pradesh: Sugarcane farmers have demanded to hike state advisory price (SAP) for sugarcane crop. They also want the government to ensure sugar mills clear cane dues before the commencement of the new season.

The cane farmers want SAP of Rs 450 per quintal as against the Rs 325 fixed by the government.

According to the news report published in The Times of India, Rajendra Singh, national president of Azad Kisan Union said, “We have already demanded the government to hike SAP from Rs 325 to 450 per quintal. The new crushing season is about to begin but the sugar mills have not yet cleared last years’ dues. We will launch an agitation if the SAP is not hiked and dues are not cleared.”
