Sugarcane farmers to continue protest till November 10

Hubballi: Sugarcane farmers agitating for the demand in hiking FRP in Dharwad and against the increased harvesting and transportation charges by a private sugar mill in Haliyal will continue their agitation till the government comes out with a solution, reports The Hindu.

Kurubur Shanthakumar, president of the Karnataka State Sugarcane Growers’ Association convened a meeting of cane farmers in Haliyal on Friday. He said that the farmers have decided to continue their agitation till November 10, the day when the government has fixed to hold a meeting with the farmers’ representatives and mill owners.

Farmers are demanding scientific FRP (fair and remunerative price) for sugarcane and withdrawal of the transportation and harvest costs imposed by the sugar mill.
