Sugarcane farmers to lodge case against NSL sugar

Kalaburagi: The sugarcane farmers in Aland taluka planned to file a cheating case against NSL Sugars as the mill has not paid uniform charges fixed for harvesting and transportation of sugarcane from the fields to the sugar mills.

Former MLA B R Patil who is leading the agitation against the mill stated that the NSL Sugars was not paying the charges that were fixed by the authorities.

It is alleged that the mill is deducting Rs 850 per tonnes for harvesting and transportation charges for ex-field produce whereas the farmers that have harvested and were transporting cane to the mill were getting only Rs 600 per tonne. The mill was supposed to pay FRP of Rs 2,250 per tonne but has paid only Rs 2,100 per tonne.

Patil said sugar mill owes around Rs 11 crore to sugarcane farmers for season 2018-19. Therefore farmers have decided not to send cane to the mill for crushing.
