Sugarcane farmers to protest outside DC’s office

Mysuru: Sugarcane farmers under the banner of Karnataka State Sugarcane Growers’ Association have decided to protest outside the office of the deputy commissioner on February 28 demanding the release of the fair and remunerative price announced by it for the ongoing crushing season, reports The Times of India.

A decision in this regard was taken in a meeting held at Kuvempu Park near Gun House Circle in the city.

Kurubur Shanthakumar, president of the organization said, “The state government has ordered sugar mills to pay Rs 150 per tonne as FRP to the cane farmers but the mills have not yet released the FRP to farmers even after two months of the order. Hence we have decided to launch agitation outside the DC office to pressurize the government to act on our demand.”
