Sugarcane harvesters from other states to be deployed to harvest excess cane in Maharashtra

Pune: Sugarcane crushing season in Maharashtra is at the final stage but several mills are likely to continue crushing as sugarcane is still standing in the fields.

According to the news report published in The Hindu Businessline, as the crushing season is at the final stage, most of the cane cutters have migrated to their native places and the excess cane remains to be crushed. Taking steps to address the issue, the National Federation of Cooperative Sugar Factories Limited (NFCSF) has decided to rope in sugarcane harvesters from neighbouring states like Gujarat, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, and other states to harvest the cane standing in fields. NFCSF has requested the sugar mills in other states to provide cane harvesters to Maharashtra mills.

Jaiprakash Dandegaonkar, NFCSF President said that the issue of excess cane is serious in Jalna, Parbhani, and Hingoli districts of Maharashtra. He convened the meeting of sugar industry players on Sunday and requested them to send machines to Maharashtra. Also, sugarcane harvesters in districts of Maharashtra where harvesting is completed will be brought to the areas facing excess sugarcane problems.
