Sugarcane minister warns of strict action against sugar mills if they fail to clear cane arrears

Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh: Reacting to the criticism of the opposition over the delay in cane payment, the state government has claimed to have paid Rs 6000 crore arrears during the 45-day lockdown period.

Suresh Rana, minister for cane development said, “Payment was done despite the negligible sale of sugar during a lockdown.”

He also asked the sugar mills to remain prepared for the upcoming cane crushing season. Minister also warned of strict action against the mills if they fail to clear cane arrears as soon as possible.
