Sugarcane producers under BKU stages dharna

Ambala, Mar 6 (UNI) The sugarcane producers under the banner of Bhartiya Kisan Union (BKU) held a dharna outside Banondi Sugar Mills Nanaraingarh on Tuesday. The agitated farmers held the demonstration against the management of the mill and closed down the weighing station of the mill.

According to the protesters, they are demanding payment of dues which have not been paid for the last many years. There is an outstanding of dues running into crore of rupees.

The farmers under compulsion sell their produce to the mill without getting cash payment. The mill management, SDM Naraingarh and DSP informed the farmers that they had talked to the State Cane Commissioner who had informed that a notification with regard to the problem of the farmers would be issue within two days and the amount of subsidy of each farmers would be transferred in their account.

The management said they would receive the subsidy amount within 15 days . They said that they were facing the problem because of rates of sugar art at 31 per kilogram and sugar was not purchased by the concerned agencies.
