Swabhimani Shetkari Sanghatana’s 21st sugarcane convention to be held on October 15

Kolhapur: Swabhimani Shetkari Sanghatana (SSS), a farmers’ organisation, will organise the 21st sugarcane convention on October 15 at Vikramsing ground in Jaysingpur town in Hatkanangle taluka of the district.

Addressing a press conference, SSS president and former MP Raju Shetti said that the convention will decide on the first instalment of FRP (Fair and Remunerative Price) of sugarcane per tonne for the upcoming crushing season and the organisation will organise an awareness programme of FRP among farmers (Jagar Yatra for Jagar FRPCha, Sangharsh Usa daracha) from September 24.

“The awareness campaign will be organised in Kolhapur, Sangli and neighbouring districts from September 24 to October 4,” he said.

We want the sugar mills to pay FRP in one go and not in installments as decided by then Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA), said Shetti.

“We have already demanded to the state chief minister Eknath Shinde to cancel the MVA government’s decision of FRP in three installments,” farmer leader further added.
