Swabhimani Shetkari Sanghtana to protest for pending cane dues in Maharashtra

Pune: The sugarcane farmers under the banner of Swabhimani Shetkari Sanghatana have launched the agitation for getting the one-time FRP from sugar millers. According to the news report published in indiaexpress.com, SSS chief Raju Shetty has decided to picket outside homes of state ministers to protest against the delayed and partial payment for their sugarcane.

As many as 97 sugar mills out of 187 sugar mills have managed to take the written statements from farmers agreeing to get FRP in installments. Shetty is protesting against this and has demanded a one-time FRP from all the sugar mills in the state.

As the cane crushing season is nearing, the sugar mills owe arrears around Rs 2,300 crore. The notices have been issued to the 13 sugar mills by the sugar commissioner for the delay in cane payments.
