Tamil Nadu: Farmers demand revival of sugar mill located at Alanganallur

Madurai: Sugarcane farmers under the banner of the Tamil Nadu Sugarcane Farmers Association have demanded that the government should revive the National Cooperative Sugar Mills located at Alanganallur in Madurai.

The mill has stopped operations for the past two years. The association had held a conference in Madurai during which the farmers made the demand. The conference was inaugurated by Madurai MP Su Venkatesan.

According to the news report published in The Times of India, in his inaugural address, Venkatesan appealed to the state government and chief minister M K Stalin to take note of the issue and act immediately.

“The sugar mills should start operations this season that will bring relief to the cane farmers. The state government must also provide a loan of Rs 10 crore to the mill to start functioning again,” he further added.
