Tamil Nadu: Sugarcane growers demand immediate disbursement of Rs 30 crore arrears

Thanjavur: Sugarcane growers who are also shareholders of Tamil Nadu Sugar Corporation walked out of the annual general meeting demanding immediate disbursement of Rs 30 crore pending cane arrears and payment of Rs 900 per tonne for the cane sent to the Arignar Anna Sugar Mill at Kurungulam, Thanjavur, during 2015-16 and 2016-17 as announced by the State government.

Citing that the delay in payments has increased their troubles, they said that the crushing should start by December 8. They also demanded that the millers should bear the cane cutting cost, assist farmers in getting loans. They also want the Corporation to clear the stocks available in their warehouses.
