The area under cane cultivation in Uttar Pradesh is expected to increase in the upcoming season. It is estimated to be up by 3-4 per cent year-on-year, reports Financial Express.
The farmers prefer cane cultivation over rice or wheat cultivation due to the higher cane prices.
The state government’s data suggests that the area under cane is likely to increase to 2.93 million hectares in 2022-23 from 2.84 million hectares in the previous season. The total area under cane cultivation in 2020-21 was 2.76 million hectares and in 2019-20 it was 2.74 million hectares.
