Two sugarcane farmers start indefinite hunger strike

Ambala: Two sugarcane farmers under the banner of the Bhartiya Kisan Union (Rattan Mann) have launched a hunger strike on Tuesday over the delay in cane payment by Naraingarh sugar mill. They are Narpat Rana, BKU block president and Jasmer Singh, district president.

“Every year farmers are forced to hold agitations for their dues. This season, the mill is yet to pay Rs 50 crore arrears. We will continue our fast till farmers get their arrears,” said Narpat Rana.

Payments till December 24 were cleared and we are hopeful of clearing the payments of December this week. We have made efforts to persuade the farmers, but they were adamant on their demand. We are hopeful that they will end their fast on Wednesday,”, Naraingarh SDM Aditi was quoted as saying by The Tribune.
