Uganda legislators urge government to construct sugar mill in Busog

After Kenya banned the import of sugarcane from Uganda for crushing, the legislators have urged the government to construct a sugar mill in the Busoga region that will take care of available sugarcane grown by the farmers.

John Bagoole, Luuka North country MP said the bilateral ban has affected the sugarcane growers and they are unable to supply Sugarcane to Kenya for crushing.

He said, “The trucks loaded with cane are lined up on the border of Kenya at Busoga as Kenya has imposed ban. The sugarcane in the trucks is being damaged due to delay in crushing.”

“Now the time has come that the government should construct a new sugar factory that will enable available sugarcane crushing and address the permeant solution to the problem.” he further added.
