Ukraine sugar export down by 50 per cent in April

The lockdown imposed worldwide to stop the spread of coronavirus has impacted the sugar industry. Sugar export from Ukraine is affected badly as the country witnessed fall in the month of April.

According to the Ukraine’s National Association of Sugar Producers (Ukrsugar), sugar exports fell to 9,100 tonnes in April from 19,600 tonnes in March 2020.

Ukraine’s white sugar exports in the 2019/20 season are likely to fall by around 70 per cent to 120,000 tonnes from 409,800 tonnes a season earlier.

According to the media reports, competition from Russia was one of the main reason for the fall.
