Union Minister Nitin Gadkari pushes for an increase in ethanol production

New Delhi: If the ethanol economy reaches to Rs 2 lakh crore, then the farmers will earn an income of Rs 1 lakh crore, said Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari.

According to the news agency ANI, he said, we will be able to reduce the air pollution by shifting to the use of ethanol as Biofuel. Farm stubble can also be used in ethanol production.

“There is the import of Rs 8 lakh crore crude oil in the country, Instead of this, we want to build Rs 2 lakh crore ethanol economy. At present, it is only Rs 20,000 crores,” he further added.

The Indian government aims to boost ethanol production, therefore it is taking various steps for the same. To strengthen the financial condition of sugar mills and cut oil imports, the government had asked mills to focus on ethanol production. Earlier, Centre had urged the mills for diversion of excess sugarcane and sugar for the production of Ethanol as a long term solution for addressing the problem of excess sugar stock.
