Lucknow: As the Uttar Pradesh assembly election is around the corner, political parties are leaving no stone unturned to woo the sugarcane farmers, who are also the major vote bank in the state.
Ahead of the poll, Akhilesh Yadav, Samajwadi Party chief, made various promises to the farmers. He promised the sugarcane farmers that if voted to power his party will ensure cane payment in 15 days.
Elections in UP revolve around sugarcane farmers as the state is the largest producer of sugarcane and sugar and most of the farmers are associated with the sector.
Recently, Congress candidate Archana Gautam had also assured to open more sugar mills. She had said, “There is only one sugar mill here and because of this, farmers face a lot of problems. So to save their time, I will open more sugar mills.”
