US: Sugar refinery to close in Taylor; workers to lose jobs

According to the media reports, the sugar refinery in Taylor, America will stop its operation from mid-February next year, leading to the loss of 100 jobs.

The decision was taken by the board of directors for AmCane Sugar LLC.

AmCane was operating the refinery to produce a wide range of liquid including brown sugar catering the food industry. The company is subsidiary of the Michigan Sugar Co that purchased AmCane in 2016.

According to company’s press release, “The closure is the result of “an inconsistent supply chain, exacerbated by the unexpected loss of a deep water port where raw cane sugar was being delivered and unloaded.”

AmCane processed about 100,000 tons of raw cane sugar annually.
