Uttar Pradesh: Akhilesh Yadav slams state government over pending cane dues

Lucknow: Samajwadi Party (SP) president Akhilesh Yadav has criticized the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government’s inability to clear sugarcane dues of farmers, despite claiming to have achieved ‘surplus revenue.’ He questioned why the government is not prioritizing the welfare of farmers, especially in areas like Bijnor, which is a major sugarcane belt in Uttar Pradesh, reported The Times of India.

The district happens to be a part of the state’s sugarcane belt and has witnessed a number of protests by sugarcane farmers for payment of dues.

Uttar Pradesh government claims that state is leaving no stone unturned to ensure farmers get cane payment as early as possible.
