Uttar Pradesh: Awareness campaign for sugarcane farmers

Bijnor, Uttar Pradesh: UP police is working on an awareness campaign for sugarcane farmers to avoid stubble burning to keep a check on the air pollution. The police are using loudspeakers in the western UP districts including Bijnor to spread awareness among farmers and appeal them to not to burn the leaves after harvesting.

Sugar mills in the state started cane harvesting and farmers are clearing the fields for the next crop. Most farmers in Western UP take up wheat cultivation after cane harvesting.

According to the news report published in The Times of India, on Wednesday, SP Dharamveer Singh visited Najibabad with a contingent of cops and addressed peasants in their sugarcane fields on loudspeakers, urging them not to burn residue, with a warning that they will be fined otherwise.
