Uttar Pradesh: Farmers threaten to launch an agitation if cane dues not cleared on time

Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh: Sugarcane farmers’ organisation in Uttar Pradesh has threatened to launch an agitation if dues of cane growers are not paid on time.

According to the news report published in NDTV.com, V M Singh, convener of Rashtriya Kisan Mazdoor Sanghatan, has written a letter to the Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath stating that Prime Minister Narendra Modi during 2017 UP Assembly elections had assured that farmers will get their cane dues in 14 days and if delayed interest will be charged on dues. The promise has not been fulfilled even after four years have been completed.

He said, “Farmers voted for BJP hoping that the party will work for the betterment of farmers but nothing has been done in favour of farmers.
If our demands are not fulfilled, the farmers will protest from July 6-12 at the office of district magistrates, sub-divisional magistrates and Tehsil offices. After this, on July 15, there will be an agitation at the cane commissioner’s office.”
