Uttar Pradesh government to announce sugarcane price hike soon

Lucknow: According to the reports, the Uttar Pradesh government may announce sugarcane SAP on Thursday.

Sugarcane Minister Lakshmi Narayan Chaudhary had earlier stated that the price hike would be announced within the next two days. He added that the increase could be between Rs 15 and Rs 25 per quintal.

As per media report, the state government is also considering providing a transport subsidy of Re 1 to Rs 2 per quintal to sugar mills to offset the impact of the price hike.

As SAP has not been announced yet, several sugar mill owners in Uttar Pradesh have raised concerns about a significant diversion of sugarcane to jaggery manufacturing units this year, offering farmers a lucrative price ranging from Rs 375 to 410 per quintal across all 47 sugarcane-producing districts in the state, reported The Times of India earlier.

Mill owners have expressed apprehension that this diversion could hinder the fulfillment of cane supplies, leading to impact in sugar production for the season 2023-24.

Minister said that the sugarcane price would apply to the entire sugarcane supply to mills since the beginning of the crushing season.
