Lucknow: Uttar Pradesh government is fulfilling the promise made to the sugarcane farmers regarding the speedy payment of cane dues by clearing more than 1.73 lakh crores from the 2017-18 crushing season to till date, reports UNI.
Around 65 lakh farmers are engaged in sugarcane cultivation in the state supporting 45 lakh families which indicates the importance of payment of cane dues.
Indicating the pro-farmer stance, the government has ensured that sugarcane farmers in UP get cane dues of Rs 1,73,951.78 crores from 2017 to 2022 (May 26) .
The amount cleared is over 1.5 times higher than that cleared during the Samajwadi Party government and thrice than that of the BSP government.
The government is also working on increasing the productivity of sugarcane from the existing 81.5 tons per hectare to 84 tons per hectare in the coming five years.
