Uttar Pradesh: Single window clearance system for setting up ethanol plants

Lucknow: The state government is planning to set up a single-window clearance system for the setting up of ethanol plants. As per media reports, applications under this system will have to be cleared within 15 days, failing which it will be deemed as approved.

The instructions have been issued for the promotion of ethanol manufacturing in the state in the lines of the centre’s Ethanol Blended Petrol Programme.

According to the news report published in The Times of India, a government spokesperson said, “The Centre is aiming to blend 20% ethanol with petrol by 2030 and 10% by 2022. This would help in reducing carbon monoxide pollution by 35 per cent.”

54 projects of ethanol production from sugarcane have been taken up. 27 sugarcane-related projects have been completed and the construction of others are likely to be completed by the end of September. Apart from sugarcane, as many as seven projects for making ethanol from rice, wheat, barley, maize and sorghum are also underway.
