Uttar Pradesh: Sugar mills owe Rs 5,664 crore cane dues to farmers

Lucknow: Cane dues totaling Rs 5,664 crore remain unpaid to farmers across various sugar mills in the state for the 2022-23 crushing season, informed by the Uttar Pradesh government on Wednesday.

“By the information available until July 24th, an amount of Rs 5,664 in cane dues is outstanding and awaiting settlement to the farmers,” stated Cane Development Minister Lakshmi Narain Chaudhary. He provided this response in a written statement during a session of the state assembly, in reply to a query posed by member Ajay Kumar.

Chaudhary emphasized the presence of established rules and regulations designed to ensure prompt payment to farmers, with appropriate measures being taken in accordance.

The minister further revealed that notices were dispatched to sugar mills on April 21, May 19, and June 22 of the current year about the pending dues.
