Uttar Pradesh: Sugarcane area declines slightly in Bijnor

Bijnor, Uttar Pradesh: The sugarcane survey in Bijnor district has been completed, indicating a slight decrease in cultivation area compared to last year. According to the survey, sugarcane is now being grown on 2,55,506 hectares, down by 648 hectares from the previous year’s 2,56,154 hectares.

Sugarcane, along with wheat and paddy, remains one of the main crops for farmers in the district. Most farmers prioritise sugarcane cultivation and are largely dependent on it for their livelihood.

The survey was conducted after the closure of the local sugar mills, with participation from officials of the Sugarcane Department and mill staff. Although the area under cultivation has decreased slightly, officials say the reduction is minimal.

“Last year, sugarcane was cultivated on 2,56,154 hectares. This year, the area stands at 2,55,506 hectares. The decline in acerage is very small. The crop is looking excellent, and we expect a good yield this season,” said Prabhu Narayan Singh, District Sugarcane Officer, Bijnor, reported Live Hindustan.
