Uttar Pradesh: Sugarcane farmers to march to Lucknow to press for their demands

Lucknow: Farmers have decided to up the ante over the pending cane dues issue in Uttar Pradesh. Cane growers under the banner of Rashtriya Kisan Mazdoor Sangthan (RKMS) will stage a protest for demanding paying interest on sugarcane dues pending with mills.

Sangthan with farmers will march to Lucknow on July 15 to press for their demands. The organisation also convened a Mahapanchayat of farmers in the sugarcane region to encourage them to take part in the march.

RKMS president V M Singh had already organised panchayats in many regions and has plans to hold the same panchayats in other districts till July 12.

According to the news report published in hindustantimes.com, Singh said, “The intention behind organising these panchayats was to mobilise farmers for the Lucknow march to mount pressure on the state government to ensure payment of interest on dues of payment of sugarcane farmers since 2011.”

Singh asserts that sugar mills are running in profit but still not paying the interest on delayed sugarcane payments.
