Uttar Pradesh: Sugarcane farmers urge government to clear cane dues of current season

New Delhi: UP government’s claim of clearing more than Rs 1 lakh crore cane arrears to in last three years has raised controversy as the farmers and their leaders urged the government to make arrangements for settling the cane payment due to them in the current season too.

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister had informed that a record cane price payment of more than Rs 1,00,000 crores have been paid between 2017-2020 to the 47.20 lakh sugarcane farmers in the state.

According to the media report, Choudhari Pushpendra Singh, president of Kisan Kheri Sangh said, “The present situation is that farmers need funds for taking up farming activities. Sugar mills still owe sugarcane farmers Rs14,000 crores during the current season.”

Jitendra Hudda, a farmer leader from Shamli said, “During the lockdown period, most family members who were working in urban areas have returned home with no work. Farmers have suffered badly during the lockdown and need money to support their families along with taking up the agricultural Government.”

Over pending cane arrears, UP government claims they are also taking various steps. UP CM has instructed the officials to ensure payment of pending cane dues.
