Uttar Pradesh: Sugarcane survey starts in district

Amroha: Amid the coronavirus pandemic, the sugar mills of Uttar Pradesh continued their crushing season, providing relief to the sugarcane farmers. Now, according to the news report published in Livehindustan.com, the sugarcane department and sugar mills have jointly started an online survey of sugarcane in the Amroha district for next season. Based on the survey, the area will be allocated to the sugar mills for crushing sugarcane.

The ongoing cane crushing season is likely to end by May 24 and the mills and the department have started preparations for next season.
Supervisors have been deployed on duty that will visit the sugarcane fields and note down the area under sugarcane cultivation and the variety of the crop.

Coronavirus has impacted the sugar industry in India, but fighting against the corona, mills are still operating in Uttar Pradesh. According to the Indian Sugar Mills Association (ISMA), Out of 119 mills operated this year, 73 mills have ended their crushing and 46 mills continue their operations, compared to 28 mills which were operating on 15th May’ 2019 last year.
