Uttarakhand: Sugar mill to close operations early

Dehradun: Farmers in the region have accelerated sugarcane planting in their fields due to concerns that the sugar mill’s crushing season might conclude soon, with around 19 lakh quintals of sugarcane already crushed, reported Amar Ujala.

The impending conclusion of the crushing season, attributed to factors like lower sugarcane production, has prompted farmers to expedite planting efforts to secure the remaining supply before the mill ends operation.

The ongoing situation has already affected sugar supplies, with nearly 19 lakh quintals of sugarcane crushed through the sugar committee, impacting various sugarcane purchase centers in the Haridwar district. The region, particularly the Doiwala examination area, houses around 7,000 active sugarcane farmers.

Several factors, including reduced sugarcane production, have led to a decrease in sugarcane supply to the mills, resulting in the closure of some sugarcane purchase centers in the Haridwar district. In light of these circumstances, a swift resolution for farmers to supply sugarcane to the mill is being emphasized, said Dinesh Pratap Singh, the Administrative Director of Sugar Mill, Doiwala, urged farmers to expedite sugarcane supply to meet the demands amid the challenges faced by the mill.
