Vietnam witnesses 23.1 per cent reduction in sugar production

Hanoi, Vietnam: According to the General Statistics Office, Vietnam’s national index of industrial production advanced 2.6 per cent year-on-year in the first seven months of this year. Whereas the production of refined sugar witnessed the largest output reduction year-on-year, at 23.1 per cent.

Recently, the Vietnam government had urged the Customs department to keep a check on the smuggling of sugar into the country. Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc had asked the General Department of Vietnam Customs to coordinate with the local administration and the other government agencies to tackle the sugar smuggling and fraud in the sugar trade.

PM urged the sugarcane farmers to increase mechanization and use modern techniques to increase sugarcane production.
