Wheat harvesting peaks up as temperature rises after rain

Karnal: Wheat harvesting activities have been increased in Karnal and Kaithal districts as the temperature is increasing after rain in the region, reports Tribune India.

Farmers are using harvesters as well as harvesting wheat manually to speed up the process as they are worried over the warning of IMD of rains along with strong winds between April 17 and 20.

We are facing a lot of problems due to sudden changes in the weather conditions, said a farmer from the district. Last week we witnessed rain with strong winds that delayed harvesting and now the temperature has increased and we have sped up harvesting activities, he said.

Grain markets in Karnal and Kaithal are witnessing a good arrival of wheat after the low arrival of commodities in the initial days.

The 22 purchase centres in Karnal district have received 35.20 lakh quintals of wheat till 5.30 pm on Wednesday. Last year these centres received 56.75 lakh quintals of wheat during the same period, said the District Marketing Enforcement Officer, Haryana State Agricultural Marketing Board.
