Wheat prices increase up to 3 per cent on festival season demand

Wheat prices have increased by 1.5% to 3% in September due to festival demand, reports Economic Times.

A leading flour miller said that the wheat prices that were suppressed after the ban on wheat flour exports have increased by Rs 70-80/quintal during September taking the price to Rs 2430-2450 /quintal.

The prices are likely to be reduced as the government has announced the extension of Prime Minister Garib Kalyan Yojana (PMGKY). The government on Wednesday extended PMGKAY for three more months so that poor and vulnerable sections are supported for the major festivals including Navratri, Dussehra, Milad-un-nabi, Deepawali, Chhath pooja, Gurunanak Dev Jayanti and Christmas.
