With no monsoon rain in sight, drought-like situation grips Telangana

Hyderabad: July is in its second week, and yet Telangana has not seen the rain. Most of the districts in the state are suffering from a drought-like situation.

Due to the delay, many farmers are facing the heat of it as they could not be taken up sowing operation in many areas.

According to the forecast, it was expected that rain would the state in the first week of July, but it did not come true.

According to the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD), the deficit rainfall for the current month is 33 per cent.

As per the reports, as many as 24 out of 33 districts have rainfall shortage.

Figures available with the irrigation department shows sowing operations could be taken up in only 12 lakh hectares against average 16 lakh hectares so far.

Many farmers are in fear that the seeds they have sown may dry up due to the scarcity of the water.

The agriculture department is waiting for another 10 days before pressing any contingency plan into operation.
