Chandigarh: Saraswati Sugar Mill, Yamunanagar, commenced cane crushing operations on Tuesday.
D P Singh, senior vice president (cane) said, “The mill has started operations one week earlier this season compared to last season. In last year we had started operations on November 24. This year we had promised farmers to start operations earlier so that they would be able to clear fields and take the next crop.”
The mill has set a target of 170 lakh quintal this year, against 160 of last year. As many as 20,500 cane farmers from 700 villages send their cane to the mill for crushing.
